Collecting in General

Experts say that most people collect for 5 basic reasons:

1 For love of beauty:  There is something soothing about contemplating a perfectly sculptured piece of non-functioning porcelain.

2 For a sense of satisfactory in completion:  Ask any collectors how he feels when he rounds out his collection.

3 For the thrill of the chase:  This appeals to the hunter-gatherer in all of us and plus it adds a purpose to shopping trips, vacations, and forays to flea market visits when we have a specific items in mind.

4 For confirmation to our roots:  Many collectibles are rich in cultural and ethnic meaning.

5 For profit:  This is usually the last reason most people acquire collections.  Coins, artworks, and genuine antiques items can become quite valuable.
